Description
PREFACE is being proposed as a new CMS subsystem in the very forward direction at z = 100-120m, with silicon tracking and HGCAL modules mounted above the beam pipe. It has unique sensitivity in regions of the mass:coupling plane to any BSM weakly interacting particles that can pass through > 30 m of iron and decay to SM particles in a 10 m^3 fiducial volume. Possibilities include dark scalars, HNLs. ALPs, dark photons, etc. PREFACE does not require any changes to the LHC infrastructure and could begin in Run 4.
