Description
This talk presents a recent result from the CMS Collaboration: the search for long-lived supersymmetric partners of the tau leptons decaying within the tracker volume of the CMS experiment. The search was performed by analyzing an integrated luminosity of 138 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment between 2016 and 2018 using a dedicated identification algorithm targeting tau lepton decays displaced from the primary interaction vertex: DisTau. The search extends the explored parameter space for supersymmetric models and improves limits compared to previous searches. This talk will provide an overview of the search strategy, with the DisTau algorithm being highlighted for its contribution in improving the sensitivity to these exotic detector signatures, and show the improved limits on the proper lifetime and mass of the tau super-partner in gauge-mediated supersymmetry-breaking models.
