General update:

  • Price enquiry for BOND order did not have an answer after 5 weeks (only low-developed countries) in the first run.
  • 5 weeks lost
  • New price enquiry launched again.

3D Engineering design:

  • Connection box shall be compatible with CLUSTER-D in principle (To be checked if HFM will be equipped with the possibility of going above 20 kA)
  • For Stainless steel we agree to go for SS316L (better than 304 in terms of magnetic). Note that 316LN would be tricky to machine.
  • Wedge geometry on the sides compared with the coil: Designed as aligned, then we will shim
  • On the wedge surface in contact with the coil, to make it sliding, shall we put some PTFE coating or just releasing agent?
    • We go for PTFE coating
  • For wedge tolerances (aperture radius) we use the same as the pole +/- 0.1 mm
  • Wedge area in contact with the pole stopper - By design we target for a perfect match (no gaps)
  • For wedge production, we introduce a stress relief treatment before final machining
  • Interlayer:
    • Option 1: CERAPREG interlayer (tests on-going at Polymer Lab). Nico L. is happy so far. To be tested in SMC302, hopefully tested before first BOND coil.
    • Option 2: Standard fiber option, piling up several layers of S2-glass DESIZED. We need to make sure that we have enough glass and which thickness. Nico L. to follow this.
    • In any case, try to avoid binder. And for the moment we do not plan any tool for this.

Mock-ups:

  • See slides from Nico L.
  • Tomography available already for the first mock-up
  • Metallographic analysis on-going. Some results expected next week or in 2 weeks time
  • Second mock-up wound and reacted with same parameters. This time reacted horizontally (not as the first one), same results as first one.
    • Negligible impact from gravity. We can conclude that the tilt in the first reaction has a negligible impact in our observables.
  • ACTION ITEMS:
    • Contact Oscar and prepare a presentation wrapping-up all mock-up results in 2 weeks for now.

Other tooling:

  • For Spring 2026, we would like to have developed the alternative measurement system (with the possibility of adding machine).
    • Action item: For next meeting, Nico L. and Nico B. will communicate how they want to organize.

Components:

  • MICA, S2-glass (including MICA with less silicone-gluant content) and other components / improvements to be procured by Nico L.
  • Epoxy: In principle, CTD 101K for first coils. We should give Polymer Lab the volume we need per coil. We should order enough for 4+1 coils.
  • Polyimide sheets for ground insulation. Make sure with Seb that there is enough in stock.
  • FUJI Paper: To be checked what stock and date we have in stock.

Double aperture:

  • Issue on yoke stresses and coil-pole pressure
  • Check the corner issue with different mesh sizes.
  • Explore further the 4-parts yoke
