JCOP FWWG 25 November 2025

Europe/Zurich

ATLAS made available to the JCOP FWWG members a Grafana dashboard demonstrating their TimescaleDB integration.
It is available at https://grafana-atlas-dcs.web.cern.ch/d/ef56n52fjxptsc/jcop-fwwg-dashboard?orgId=1&from=1763988735883&to=1764075135883

Rafal's comment: there's an intention to prepare similar "technical preview" infrastructure for other experiments too, with a selected time range of data to be re-transmitted. (topic covered at the end of Rafal's presentation)

LHCb may be interested in testing the setup. Would be useful to use it during the run of 2026, otherwise during the LS3 there will be no needed.
Hence, interest of LHCb in the proposal of deployment of the NGA timescaledb backend in selected systems.
It would also make sense to have the whole data retransferred, or at least for the Run3, as people do need to make analysis over months or years of data.
Rafal to follow up with Luis and Clara.

ATLAS commented that from their experience the sooner people start to use grafana the better  as there is some learning curve...
In ATLAS lots of users insisted on having all the data transferred from Oracle to Grafana and this was perfectly doable (within 3 weeks).

LuisGC: ReadAPI - is it a BE-ICS development?
The concept is similar to fwRDBAPI, ie. a package installable in the database schema, giving access to data with no need to know the schema details or SQL.
Hence, easier to integrate into Grafana. It does not replace Grafana Postgress data source but it makes it much easier to use and also prevents bad execution plans.
The API is already used in the Continuous Aggregates to pass aggregated data over smoothly.

What were the specs of the desktop PC that outperformed DBoD in all the tests?
It is clarified on Rafal's slides: the PC had less RAM than the DBoD instance, but the very reason for its performance is the use of NVMe storage.

Continuous Aggregates in WinCC OA NGA - when will they be available?
The development is pending on BE-ICS, and ETM already pre-agreed to release it as a patch for WinCC OA 3.21, once ready.

Fernando introduced Nikita, a new member of BE-ICS NGA Team, who will strengthen the team during NGA deployment period.
