Testing escape theory for cosmology

Presenting on the blackboard in the spirit of Cosmo Coffee, I will motivate stochastic equations to study the dynamics of cosmological phase transitions. I will then introduce escape theory, highlighting the similarities and differences between the escape dynamics of particles and field theories. After highlighting some persistent discrepancies found in the escape dynamics of fields over the last four decades, I'll present some new results which reveal the heart of the remaining problem left to be solved.
