BOND design status - Update on CAD and Dummy coil analysis

CAD Design:

  • Completed impregnation mold, reaction to impregnation transfer and last coil components (splice area, endshoe, etc). Ready to be launched, we need to decide what to send outside and what to keep internal
  • Question on the axes for the ceramic bearings:
    • Tolerances on the shaft could give interferences at warm. Proposal is to modify them.
    • In the mock-ups we used INVAR at the end (we investigated titanium at the beginning)
  • Next steps:
    • Tooling to handle the coil after impregnation
    • Coilpack assembly procedure
    • Assembly table
  • EN-MME:
    • Sylvain to do some trials for the FBG into the coil 
  • End-plate
    • Silver coating for the bullets screws in the endplate
    • Minimum thread (at least two times the diameter, but computed by Dimitrios and Nico P.)
    • Meeting to be organized with Michael to check the results from the ANSYS simulations and define next steps
      • We should confirm that the bullet system works in the stress and deformation range proposed by EN-MME
      • We would like to organize as well a experimental test with strain measurements under their press (as soon as the design is validated)

 

Mock-ups:

  • Third mock-up ongoing with DIC measurements

 

ANSYS dummy coil simulations:

  • Simulations show a peak stress in the Al-dummy coil of 200 MPa at warm and 350 MPa at cold, for the case where we match the same shell force than for our baseline preload
  • Vendela to ask for prices and delivery times for good aluminum candidates
