WP2: Status meeting #48
Present: Francesco, Laurie, Matt, Alex, Rui, Florian
Florian - muon background
- More scaling emittance simulations done.
- Shows that losses don't go to zero -> material still in beam is the source
- Conclusion that the vacuum is not dominant and it's the material in T4 that dominates losses.
- Initial conditions from summer 2025 were used, need to switch to the most recent ones.
- Action (Alex): Publish the note on the beam parameters on EDMS Also the current optics is not matched due to recent changes in the P42 line.
- Action (Alex, Fabian): Rematch the optics for the new beam line and initial conditions. Units in the Slide 7 might be wrong (mm instead of cm)
- Action (Florian): Double-check the units in the plots What is the impact of scattering on the elements in TT20 on the final muon distribution at the BDF? Must be small..
Fabian - collimation FS review
Comments and TODO points are added directly to the draft: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1636012/contributions/6896723/attachments/3205589/5707945/p42-collimators-functional-spec-2.docx
Halo tracking and error studies need to be done to finish the document. Need the distribution of the approximate halo (pure acceptance from uniform phase space up to T4) to validate this isn't leaked through and lost after the collimators.
It was agreed to put out the collimator FS roughly as it stands just now with the edits described and then update later (i.e. in a month) with the halo simulations. What must be decided for this draft is the stroke - in particular how far across 0 the jaws can go. 5 sigma across 0 was suggested.
- Action (Alex): Track the halo to determine the line acceptance up to T4.
- Action (Alex): Create the draft of the Error study note and put the numbers there.
- Action (Alex): Perform the corresponding error study and describe the results in the Error study note
