Description

Recent contributions to the XRootD client component have opened the possibility of using it as a multiprotocol client, supporting basic features of HTTP and S3.
This talk introduces the ongoing work to enable the ROOT framework to access HTTP and S3 servers through this XrdCl component, with the medium term goal to provide a working alternative to the Davix library.
We discuss the minimal features that are needed to achieve the objective and the ones that need to be added, trying to establish a workplan made of integration steps that cover authentication, basic features and performance-oriented ones.
