Description
Monte Carlo Event Generators form a bridge between the Standard Model Lagrangian and collider measurements. To do so they combine complementary approximations and models across all scales: fixed-order perturbation theory for the hard scattering, matching to or merging with the parton shower, the semi-classical shower itself for the cascade, and semi-empirical models of hadronisation and MPI. In this talk we review the fundamentals of event generation alongside recent progress, and point to the challenges ahead.
