Train
Geneva is conveniently located in the centre of Europe and has direct train connections to Milan, Paris, Lyon, and Zurich. From the train station, you can take tram Number 18 toward CERN and go to the last stop. You can plan your train journey, for example, via the SBB website.
Plane
If you come from further away and want to arrive via plane, from Geneva airport, there are direct flights to many airports in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. From the airport, it's best to take a bus to Blandonnet, where you need to change to tram Number 18 towards CERN.
If you don't find flights to Geneva, you can go to Zurich airport and then take a direct train to Geneva.
Complete directions, maps, and advice can be found at Directions to CERN.
Once at CERN
If you have a room in the hostel and arrive on Sunday evening, the guards at the CERN main entrance (B) will have your name on the guest list. Please bring your reservation confirmation.
For detailed maps of CERN, you can enter building numbers in the search box at the top of the CERN maps. The hostel buildings are numbers 38, 39, 41, the reception is 33, the main auditorium is 500, and the restaurant is in building 501.
Please note that in order to obtain your CERN access card to enter the site, details and a link to obtain an access card will be sent to you before the workshop.
NOTE: On previous occasions, several participants received phishing messages offering to book accommodation for the event. We do not send such messages, and participants need to make their own arrangements for their accommodation (either at the CERN hostel or hotels nearby).
CERN Hostel reservation
Please note that a number of rooms at the CERN Hostel have been blocked for this conference. To book one of these rooms, we kindly ask you to fill in the form you will find here and send it back to housing.service@cern.ch at the latest 31 days before the expected arrival date.
Please note that those rooms are exclusively for participants (no accompanying person).
After this deadline or after the number of pre-booked rooms runs out, you can still request a room by sending the form back to housing.service@cern.ch directly, but the reservation is not guaranteed (they will confirm availability or not).
More information can be found on the CERN Housing web page.
Hotels in the local area
If you prefer to stay off-site in a hotel, the Housing Service has identified some hotels and apartment hotels in the close vicinity to CERN. More details on these can be found at the link here.
Wi-fi Connection
When you arrive at CERN, connect your device to the "CERN Visitors" Wi-Fi (Internet-only access) or use the Eduroam network with your host institution's credentials (a page accepting the CERN rules will be proposed to you the first time you connect).
