Summary of meeting on June 9, 2026.
The recording is available here.
- If any lecturer would like to have less time than allotted on the students' program, let us know how to adjust. Sister Mary may collect this information from the LOC lecturers and communicate to us.
- If a lecturer from the Kenya wish to stay at the Roussel House, please contact Sister Mary for arrangement.
- Prof. Nadir has physics books that he would like to make available to students. The books need to be returned at the end of the event in the same conditions. We should arrange for the reception of the books and allocations to students.
- It is desirable to have 2 computer rooms. We requested 38 computers for 76 students. These may be arranged in the 2 rooms, and if there are more computers to add the better.
- In the first week, teachers and students will need computers for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Geant4 simulation. The programs for students and teachers should be arranged such that there is no conflict in the usage of the computers.
- Uli, with Kevin, has installed and tested IoT software on 1 machine. They will meet again soon. Also, Uli will install ROOT (and PyROOT) and Geant4.
- Besides the computer rooms, if a lecturer needs equipment for a parallel activity, beyond tables and desks, let us know soon. Students will select the parallel activities of interest but people overseeing the activities will ensure that some rooms are not overcrowded.
- Students have all received air tickets for travel. However, we will ask the students from the DRC (2) and Uganda (2), the countries currently affected by Eloba, to attend ASP2026 online, out of an abundance of precaution.
- We recommend international travelers getting vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before traveling. However, at their discretion, they may follow the guidelines from the home countries (for leaving and returning) as well as from the Kenyan authorities (for entry into Kenya), and from their medical doctors. Although Nairobi (venue of ASP2026) is not a malaria-risk area, we suggest that you consult with your medical doctor and follow his/her recommendations.
- If between now until July 3, there appears a confirmed case of Ebola in Kenya, we will postpone ASP2026.
- If between July 4-19, during the school, there is a health issue, we will take action depending on the nature of the problem:
- We were in Ghana during ASP2012 for 3.5 weeks when there was a political situation, but ASP2012 proceeded successfully to the end.
- We were in Senegal during ASP2014 for 3 weeks when there was an Ebola epidemic in neighboring Guinea, and Liberia and Sierra Leone. ASP2014 proceeded successfully to the end.
- There shouldn't be fear nor worry about ASP2026.
- Our next and last meeting will be on June 23 with the students.
