WLCG and EGI accounting meeting

Europe/Zurich

Attended: Greg, Tom, Alessandro, Renato, Catalin, Dirk, Julia

Excused: Maria

Greg presented the new version of the accounting portal running at STFC for the moment as staging/validation instance:

https://accounting-staging.egi.eu

From the 1st of July will go in production : https:accounting.egi.eu

Alessandro suggested some minor changes which can be implemented before the 1st of July. We agreed that Greg would try to implement them.

Alessandro also sent a mail after the meeting with longer term requirements which will be implemented after 1st of July. See his mail below.

Julia thinks that though information with monthly values is not provided in the table form , IT IS provided in a chart and moving mouse over a particular bar, one can see the value. We might need to discuss further how tables should be added. Adding them to a main multi-metric page does not look reasonable, we will have ~10 metrics, the page is already long. Bar graphs are much more compact and allow to see anomalies, while tables take a lot of space and if they are needed, they should be a part of a single metric view, rather than adding 10 tables to  single page.

May be would be useful if EGI colleagues  can prepare a mockup page of how they see dashboard with the tables and then we discuss together at one of the future meetings.

Maria suggested that we should improve documentation which describes the steps people need to take in order to add a new reporting service in the workflow.

Julia will be in vacations for 3 weeks, she suggested that Alessandro organizes next meeting while she is absent

-------------------------------

Dear all,

I'd like to share some other remarks about the new Accounting Portal. Specifically, this time about tables and charts in the historical section.

Let's take the following query as an example:

HTC data for NGI_IT from June 2024 to May 2026, grouped by Site.

We can see the different charts showing the total trend for each metric over the selected time period.
What we miss is a table for each (selected) metric (X-axis: time. Y-axis: "group_by" selection) reporting directly the numbers produced by each site (or by each selected VO, tier, country, etc.).
Such a table(s) would provide very useful information on how any selected entity behaved over the chosen time period: it would immediately tell us if a site or a VO stopped producing accounting data, if they produced anomalous numbers, etc.

The current charts do not provide this information.

It would also be useful to move the historical section to the top of the page, showing the "missing" table above the charts, because that is what we look for first.
Then the summary sections should be displayed after.

Maybe we can also discuss about a proper landing page (similar to the old accounting portal) showing the complete historical trend over time (aggregated by pre-selected time blocks) for the several HTC and Cloud metrics (a chart with line).

We appreciate that implementing this before the move to production will be difficult, so please consider this over the coming months. Of course, we can further discuss this during the next meetings.
