Development of an acquisition system for Frequency Scanning Interferometry

The High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade at CERN requires precise, remote monitoring of accelerator component alignment in environments combining high radiation, cryogenic temperatures, and strong electromagnetic noise.
Frequency Scanning Interferometry (FSI) is one of the core sensor technologies underpinning the Full Remote Alignment System (FRAS) developed to meet this need, providing sub-10 μm accuracy and micrometric precision for absolute distance measurement.
In this talk, we will present the design of the FSI acquisition system in terms of hardware, gateware, and software. The system is based on the DI/OT platform, using a custom photodetector board and GPU-based data processing.
The first operational prototype installations, totalling over 300 channels, have been successfully deployed, with more than 1500 channels planned for future installation.
