    MADMAX CERN meeting

    1- News from CERN:

    • MADMAX slot is frozen to June 2028 - Apr 2029 when the Morpurgo will be available
    • AUL's in EHN1 and GIF++ : operation will take place at the end of this year during LS3. This will not impact MADMAX run
    • Morpurgo magnet running expected to be routine.

    2- News from MADMAX:

    • 4 publications are now issued based on the activities taking place at CERN in 2022-24. Notably world best limits have been obtained in the axion mass range around 80 mueV
    • Main cryostat to be used during 2028-29 has passed the Site Acceptance Test at LHe temperature in May 2026 on the DESY campus. Since then, 1) the booster is being assembled 2) the receiver cryostat has been coupled to the main cryostat. First cold test of the full system (including main cryostat, booster and receiver cryostat) is foreseen early next year
    • Pending cooling water in the North Area between Sep 2026 and June 2028, it is possible to rent a chiller to operate. However after discussion with Bastien this option will not be used for the MADMAX run because the cooling system will be back in operation in June 2028 and there will be only a very short stop around the 2028-29 End of the Year break (4-6 weeks). So both magnet and MADMAX can operate during the rest of the time without the need of a chiller.
    • Physics program will be split in 2 runs : June - November 2028 and February - April 2029. If possible, extension beyond April 2029 is highly welcome.
    • Consumption of LHe during MADMAX run estimated around 150 liters. Proposal to put a 500 liters dewar for the full running period
    • Discussion restarted with CERN safety for the validation of the cryostat.
    • CERN infrastructure (grey tent, rails and scaffolding) will be discussed with the CERN team (M. Lazzaroni, J. Maria) in March 2027 

    3- Next steps:

    • Bastien will come back to us at the beginning of 2027 when we will know better how LS3 has started. A new CERN-MADMAX meeting will be organized then to discuss about possible adjustement of the MADMAX slot
