The next frontier of AI (a.k.a. Super Intelligence) for science is learning how to translate scientific challenges into a form that AI can solve effectively. Motivated in part the emerging opportunities of Genesis Mission, this workshop aims to identify and translate key problems in High Energy/Nuclear Physics (HENP) and Quantum Computing around two complementary goals: Harnessing and Aligning
- Harnessing AI for Science: We want to identify what we already have and what we need for AI to make a bigger splash in (HENP), Quantum Computing, and Accelerator Control.
- Aligning with AI: We want to blur the traditional boundaries across different experiments, rallying experts from different domain under the common interest of foundation model, fastML, and agentic AI.
The workshop will feature a special format called H&A Sessions (Harnessing and Alignment Sessions). Unlike traditional talk-based sessions, H&A Sessions are designed to emphasize discussion, exchange of perspectives, and alignment under shared interests.
Each session will be led by a facilitator, who will coordinate with all participants to develop a shared slide deck before the session. During the session, participants will collectively work through the slides, using them as a guideline for discussion, debate, and opinion exchange. The goal is to identify concrete directions for how the community can best harness AI while aligning for DOE Genesis Mission Phase II submissions and other potential collaboration.
Below are the information of all H&A Session and their facilitator:
- Foundation Model: TBD
- Agentic AI: Phil Harris (MIT)
- Quantum Computing and Sensing: Mark Neubauer (UIUC)
- Fast Machine Learning: TBD
- High Energy and Nuclear Physics: Shih-Chieh Hsu (UW)
- Experiment Design and Accelerator Control: TBD
This workshop is Sponsored by Accelerated AI Algorithms for Data-Driven Discovery (A3D3) Institute.
