Overview

The TH-Institute on Quantum Sensing, Simulation, and Computation brings together high-energy theorists, quantum information scientists, experimentalists, and computer scientists to examine the rapid convergence of quantum technology and fundamental physics. Over two dedicated focus weeks, the institute aims to identify key physics problems that can benefit from quantum technologies and, conversely, explore how fundamental physics challenges can inspire new quantum hardware, algorithms, and sensing architectures.
The program will include:
Focuses on quantum-enhanced measurements and precision technologies for fundamental physics discoveries. Topics include:
  • Quantum metrology, squeezing, and optomechanical sensors.
  • Ultra-sensitive detectors for dark matter, axion, and light BSM (Beyond the Standard Model) particle searches.
  • Atomic clocks, atom interferometry, and precision tests of fundamental symmetries and gravity.
  • Interfacing novel quantum materials and superconducting devices with particle physics detectors.
Focuses on computational paradigms for tackling intractable quantum field theory problems and complex data processing. Topics include:
  • Quantum simulation and tensor network approaches for lattice gauge theories and non-perturbative QCD.
  • Real-time gauge dynamics, early universe cosmology, and neutrino propagation.
  • Quantum computing algorithms, variational quantum circuits, and quantum machine learning for event reconstruction and analysis.
  • Benchmarking quantum advantage against state-of-the-art classical computing.

Program Format

To maximize meaningful collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange, the institute maintains a low-density formal schedule:
  • 2 to 3 Talks Daily: Morning and afternoon keynote/topical presentations offering broad overviews and target research directions.
  • Extended Discussion Sessions: Dedicated daily roundtables, moderated brainstorming blocks, and hands-on working groups designed to spark cross-community research collaborations.
