LOG MINUTES OF 5TH APRIL MEETING
News from DG-CO, James
- No news about Range Rover problem, it is still on discussion with the legal service.
- Media training: Dates planed in May with HR. Will do as many trainings as needed but experiment should ask their people to sign up for HR training.
- Communication strategy: budget of DG-CO has been increased, we will have more posts in the MTP and it has been accepted to have a representative of communication at the management level.
- Open Day in 2013: From Friday 27 September to Sunday 29 September (one day for Industry, one for CERN people and one for public). Would like to bring visitors underground in experimental caverns and in the tunnel (Pt3 and 7 no access for visitors except for local people). There will be a competition to get a ticket to go underground.
- Press access for visits underground in 2013-2014: will need to organize a meeting with GLIMOS and outreach people to talk about it.
Sophie will present the winter shutdown press visits debriefing during the next LOG meeting.
News from PH-EDU, Rolf
- Underground visits for public in 2013: there are already people asking for underground visits for next year. We need to define a policy to visit underground. This process should involve the VIP and Press offices as well.
Emmanuelle to set up this meeting between Experiments, Visits service, VIP office and Press office.
- Word of the DG about visits and private/pirate visits. Rolf asked the outreach people to inform their collaborations that people who organize private visits with more than 10 people should inform the Visits service in order to avoid any clash with other big group visits.
Rolf will present the Visits service calendar for the next LOG meeting.
- CERN Travelling exhibition: Now in Turkey, in September in Ireland and in April-September 2013 in Poland.
- Participation to the next Frankfurt book fair with several books about CERN.
- 3D models: Rolf informed the experiments that they have a company which does 3D models for around 5’000 euros / each experiment. If you are interested in this, it would be worth ordering several at the same time and it will also make sense to order several models of the same detector.
Visit of Shree Bose, Google Science Faire winner in 2011, Silvano
Shree Bose will come to CERN to spend one week from 27 June to 4 July. As there is a technical stop from 25 to 27 June, Silvano would like to show Shree the underground experiments and the week after to show her the control rooms so she can see how physicists work in shifts. Silvano will circulate a visit programme to the outreach people.
Round the table:
CMS:
- Hangout on 4th April at 4pm. One school joined via ATLAS. Dave, Steve and Mirko did the hangout. It was pretty good, quality of image and sound is fine. There were less participants than the previous one because it has not been advertised by Google+. Finally we don’t know the number of viewers because Google does not want to provide this information but we know the number of participants.
Google should have only one contact at CERN and this person should get the statistics of the hangout.
LHCb:
Bolek gave an update on the improvements done at Pt8 exhibition. They have now 3D screens displaying nice images.
They have a long-term project: building a new control room and use the actual one for visitors.
They are also working on fast interactive event displays.
IPPOG:
Lisa announced that the trial phase of the new IPPOG material list and asked everybody to have a look and give their feedback.
EPPCN:
Next meeting on 12-13 April. Biggest topic will be the Brussels event in 2013. It will be focused on politicians. For the moment there is no date but it will be most likely in Summer.
2014: 60th Anniversary of CERN. The DG would like to have events organized in the member states instead of a big event at CERN.
ALICE:
Despina talked about the students welcomed by ALICE for Masterclasses and Dans la Peau d’un Chercheur.
ATLAS:
Steve talked about the ATLAS virtual visits. They get schools from Palestinia, Greece, etc. Works very well.
Steve informed the LOG that Tim Smith is developing an electronic repository where we could post the copyright forms, etc.
Masterclasses: Very good although they had less people than expected.
Emmanuelle to invite Sandrine Saison-Marsollier to report on Masterclasses for the next LOG meeting.
CinéGlobe:
Claudia reported on the CinéGlobe festival. They had good media coverage by local and international press.
22nd April: She is trying to organize at CERN the Premier of “One Day on Earth”.
Next meeting will be on Thursday 3rd May.
There are minutes attached to this event.
Show them.
