Description

The ALICE experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider allows the study of vector meson production in ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions (UPC). Due to the strong electromagnetic fields gamma-gamma and gamma-nucleus processes can be studied. We report the first results obtained at ALICE on the coherent J/psi photo-production cross section, a process sensitive to the gluon distribution of the nuclei, in PbPb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV and its rapidity dependence measured at both forward rapidities (mu+mu- channel) and central rapidities (e+e- and mu+ mu- channels)
