Description
Top quarks were first observed in ttbar pair production in 1995. Electroweak production of lonely top quarks is also predicted by the standard model. The first evidence for the production of single top quarks with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider will be presented. Several multivariate techniques used for this analysis will be discussed. The cross section measurement is used to directly determine for the first time the CKM matrix element Vtb without requiring 3 families of quarks or CKM matrix unitarity. The new combination of boosted decision tree, matrix element and Bayesian neural network analyses will also be presented.
