General information

Following last CTC, Hermann and Nuria have contacted the technical coordinator of LHCb to investigate the possibility of using building 156 as the CLIC technology centre even after the two years occupancy of the clean room already negotiated by F. Bertinelli. An already approved project to build a control room in point 8 could be extended to have an assembly hall and storage for LHCB with funding from the CLIC HiLumi and EN budget. IN exchange, CLIC would get building 156 after the construction of such project. This scenario is being considered by LHCb. Answering a question from Thibaut, Hermann explained that the space allocation in building 156 has not yet been done.

Discussion about budgets.

Hermann presented the draft allocation of money to budget codes to be discussed in CASC in the afternoon. About 5 million have been carried forward from large commitments not paid last year. To this, the amount originally allocated by the MTP minus a 5% director reserve shall be added. The new investments on which activity embarks for this year, or on the contrary, payments/activities which will be finished should be declared in one of the columns, the remaining money will be distributed pro-rata to what the teams expended last year.  All teams are asked to review their budget requests for the end of the week. Technical and doctoral students need to be budgeted but not fellows. The draft will be distributed after the meeting to budget holders. Some CTC members noticed that large commitments from last year do not appear in the table. Hermann explained that the money was not carried forward automatically but was hand-picked especially for large orders.    

Training on integrated simulation of CLIC Main Beam.

Juergen Pfingstner will give a series of seminars on integrated simulation of CLIC Main Beam including ground motion, active stabilization and beam based dispersion free steering. A sample of what will be addressed was presented here. Two or three sessions seems necessary and will be scheduled in the usual CTC slot on Tuesdays. They will not however be part of the CTC as a larger audience is expected.
The first seminar will take place on February 26th. 

Status and plans for CLIC magnets. M. Modena

Michele proceeded to show the status of the different magnets in the CLIC accelerator (see slides). A catalogue of magnets has been compiled and five documents are now issued on the design of different magnets.
For the Main Beam Quadrupole (MBQ), two prototypes are at CERN for use on the two-beam module mock-up and stabilization tests. However, magnetic measurements showed that their pole machining was not good enough. After redesigning the pole, new quadrants have been ordered from two other manufacturers with good results. Assembly of these quadrants into magnets together with mechanical and magnetic measurements should take place in 2013. 
For the Drive Beam Quad (DBQ) two of the eight electromagnets units have arrived at CERN and are waiting for magnetic measurements. Daresbury laboratory is developing two tuneable permanent magnets for the drive beam in order to cover the full dynamic range. Integrated field seems to be in reach while magnetic axes stability is not satisfactory. Magnetic measurements need to be completed.
The design of steering dipoles to be attached to MBQ is on-going. Prototypes are being manufactured at CERN. Magnetic measurements need to be scheduled to assess the feasibility of this correction at 100Hz.    
A short prototype of QD0 was assembled already in 2011 and was measured magnetically using Nd2Fe14B and Sm2Co17 blocks. More measurements are necessary to understand a 6% disagreement between model and measurement for the Nd2Fe14B configuration. New magnetic measurements hardware will be tested on this prototype. The manufacture of a longer version (one meter and not full length) is under consideration.
Design studies are on-going for the SD0 magnet as well as for the anti-solenoid and for the magnets in the post collision line. For these last magnets, the electrical consumption is so high that the use of high temperature superconductors (HTS) is being studied. 
In general magnetic measurements are lacking resources available for CLIC. A discussion with S. Russenschuck will take place to investigate other options. 

CLIC ACM project status. Frank Locci

Frank Locci presented the status of the Acquisition Control Module (ACM, see slides) project. This project aims at developing a multi-system compact and low consumption module that will integrate all the necessary control functions for beam diagnostics, feedback, vacuum, cooling, power, etc. More than 300 signals will arrive to each rack. The radiation environment is being reassessed by S. Mallows. The development of a new rad-tolerance card with a generic read-out and slow-control is planned for this year. It could be tested in CLEX.
Hermann pointed out that a proposal for the location of these racks including radiation studies, cabling layout and the integration with the module should be prepared. Several locations were discussed deserving further study.     
 
Next CTC will take place in five weeks.
