Description
Early 2013 CSC (the it centre for science in Finland) powered up the new datacentre on Kajaani, 600 km north of the offices. The datacentre focuses of energy efficiency and cost-cutting, but the design and implementation was not easy.
Summary
Globalization created free space in factories in smaller cities of Finland. This has created a insurge of datacenters using cheap cooling, stable political systems and stable hydroelectric power.
Currently the datacentre hosts a Cray XE30 supercomputer and a supercluster/cloud infrastructure in addition to the common storage for both systems.
