How to reach Bologna

By Plane
-
The Bologna G.Marconi airport (BLQ) is linked by national and international flights from all major European cities. It is located at about 5 Km from the city centre.

The airport is connected to Bologna railway station by a regular BUS service "Aerobus", with departures every 15 minutes. The ticket can be purchased on board and costs 6.00€. The travel takes about 20 minutes. The service starts at 5.30 a.m.  and ends at 12.00 a.m.
At the Airport, you can find the bus stop just outside the arrival terminal, the bus is called "BLQ".

One way trip by TAXI from the Airport to the city centre takes about 20 minutes and costs around 20€.

By Train - Bologna is the main italian railway junction and therefore all the most important national and international rails pass through it. "Le Frecce" high speed trains connect it to all the major italian cities. Many nightly trains link Bologna with Germany, France and Austria: in particular, nightly trains from Bonn, Koeln, Amsterdam, Paris and Vienna are available.

By Car - The main motorway connection is the A1 (the "Autostrada del Sole"), which links Bologna directly to Milan, Florence and Rome and to three other main routes. The A1 can be entered from Turin, Genoa or Brescia, by the A21, at Piacenza; from Genoa and La Spezia, by the A15, at Parma; from Brenner Pass, Verona, Mantova, by the A22, at Modena.
From Trieste, Tarvisio-Villach, Venice and Padua the A13 motorway is direct, as it is the A14 from Ancona, Rimini and Ravenna.
All the motorway exits lead into the city by-pass (follow the signs "Tangenziale") from which branch off the roads for all directions. The by-pass exit n.7 (Centro - Via Stalingrado) is the best one: it leads you on a large road (Via Stalingrado) pointing to the centre.

Parking - The City Centre of Bologna is closed to private cars from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, including Sundays and Public Holidays.

To give access to hotels and B&B located inside the ZTL area, the hotel management has to inform the competent Board - Sirio Office of the Traffic and Transport Department - of the guest number plates within 48 hours from their arrival. This way, number plates will be included in the authorized list for restricted area access and not fined for illegal access.
Guests can provide themselves with a special combined Park+BUS Ticket at 7,00 €, including a daily ticket to park in all the paying parking areas (blu lines), either in the town centre or in the outskirts and a daily bus ticket valid for one person. The pass is valid 24 hours starting from the convalidation hour and has to show: - car plate (on behalf of the guest); - hotel identifying stamp with the date and hour (on behalf of the hotel).
The pass P + Bus, is available at the hotels. (Traffic Restriction).

Moving Around - Bus are run by ATC public company. Bus 25 connects the railway station to Piazza Maggiore. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks and newsstands (1.20€) and have to be validated on the bus. On some buses the ticket can be purchased on board and costs 1.50€
