Description
The bi-weekly meeting of the LHC librarians and LCG/AA projects
News == LCG Configurations --- LCG 54 configuration has been released. One problem, is pending for osx using python with ROOT, the problem is not solved yet. For this configuration new scripts for building tar balls and doxygen documentation were used. Nightly Builds --- A proposal with updates to the slots in the nightly build system was circulated on the project-lcg-app-nightlies mailing list Improvements for copying of the source tree were suggested, copy the sources only once and then skip this step. The new gcc 4.2.2 compiler is provided in afs contrib area, the dev slot will be using it soon. External software --- valgrind 3.3.0 is requested by Atlas, some patches from CMS will be included into this build. Round Table == Root --- - Bertrand reported that ROOT is preparing an "out of src tree build", this will allow also the nightly builds to only copy the source tree once into afs. - Root has also been tested already on gcc 4.2 Persistency --- - requested interface for gcc in order to allow running with non native compilers, this interface could be tested together with the new gcc 4.2 builds. - Andrea asked if the oracle client is provided as a tar ball. The answer is yes, all external software is tared up by default to allow it's shipping with the experiment software. - Andrea asked if ROOT could provide a test for "import ROOT" in roottest (also PyCintex). roottest currently contains several PyROOT tests which import ROOT. It has to be checked if there are also tests which use PyCintex. - Andrea asked if we can provide a solution for setting up of a runtime environment of Grid packages together with LCG/AA projects and the rest of external software. Hubert is currently working on interface packages which shall provide this functionality. LHCb --- - The GAUDI v19r7 release will ready soon. It is based on LCG 54 and provided on slc4, mac os and windows - Hubert asked if there were instructions to rebuild all external and project software. LCGCMT provides these possibilities. A Twiki page with further instructions will be setup soon. - Hubert asked when a the cmt version will it be available. We have to contact Grigori Rybkin to get more information on this. - A problem with external libraries was reported. Some Grid packages seem to be built against external software which is not inline with the LCG/AA provided versions. The example reported was expat and openssl. The problem will be reported to the AF and discussed there. Atlas --- - The requested upgrade of Grid packages was done. Atlas now needs access to additional packages, which most probably are already installed in the LCG/AA external area but don't have corresponding interface packages in LCGCMT. Emil will send the list of packages needed, we will then see whether we need further installations and also if Hubert is already workinng on the missing interfaces. CMS --- - LCG 54 expected test releases by end of next week. Maybe problems with xerces, go back to 2.7?
