Description
Dynamical critical theories, which are scale invariant yet anisotropic, arise frequently as RG fixed points in condensed matter systems. Nonetheless, known interacting examples are few, and the theoretical properties of these systems are not well-understood. Holography offers a potentially useful approach to both issues. We cover developments in the use of holography to study field theories with anisotropy (and vice versa), with particular emphasis on the role of anomalies, and on their relationship to Horava-Lifshitz gravity.
