Description

The Super Big Bite Spectrometer (SBS) is Hall A firt new equipment in preparation for the 12 GeV upgrade of the CEBAF accelerator at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator facility (JLab). University Of Virginia (UVa) is in charge of building of the GEM-based Polarimetry Back Tracker system for SBS. The Back Tracker is made of 8 large area (50 × 200 cm2) chambers. Each chamber is assembled using 4 triple GEM modules of with an active area of 50 × 50 cm2. In this talk, we present the construction and preliminary tests of SBS GEM prototype. We will also report on the ongoing studies of the performances of two apv25-based electronics systems that are going to be used for readout of the SBS GEM trackers. Finally we will present the R&D effort for large GEM for long term future projects like the Solenoid Large Intensity Device (SoLID) in Hall A at JLab and Electron Ion Collider (EIC).
