Micro‐Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGD) have opened the way for the construction of detectors whose performance greatly surpasses that of the previous generations in terms of spatial resolution, high‐rate capability, large sensitive area, operational stability, and increased radiation hardness. Led by the Micro‐Mesh Gaseous Structure (Micromegas) and the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM), some MPGDs are mature technologies used in a variety of experiments at high energy physics, nuclear and astroparticle physics as well as medical imaging, material science, security inspection and other industrial applications. The first edition of this bi‐annual International Conference series took place in 2009, with the aim of addressing the growing interest in the field. The third Conference will take place in Zaragoza, Spain, at the Paraninfo building of the University of Zaragoza, on July 1‐4, 2013. A review of the current status of the different MPGD technologies will be given, while recent R&D achievements, ideas for future developments and prospects for industrial production will also be discussed. The Conference will be followed by the RD51 Collaboration meeting on July 5‐6 at the same venue.
