The share of FLUKA intellectual property between INFN and SHARE has been definitively approved to 50% each by both agencies.
Furthermore, the new scheme of commercial license and related workflow has been approved. We have now to verify the persistance of interest of those potential customers who expressed themselves in the last months.
A demo version of FLUKA has been prepared to help potential customers to evaluate the use of FLUKA. In this version only a limited number of random samplings is allowed: not enough to generate a useful result, but enough to understand the potentialities of the code.
The KTT department of CERN whishes to produce an advertising video for FLUKA: good looking members of the collaboration of both sexes could be necessary :-)
Next FLUKA Release
It has been recognized that a realistic deadline is closer to February 2014 than December 2013, although this would break our proposed periodicity of about 2 years. The last major release was in March 2011.
As usual, voulenteers are needed to test the new release as soon as it will be internally ready.
Web Services
It has been approved to move the siscussion archive to an email service from CERN.
In that case a new link has to be created in Discuss menu in the FLUKA web page.
Also the meeting of the FLUKA Collaborations can be recorded using the Indico system (as for the present case).
Rosario will study the organization of the present web site, assisted by someone of us who is aware of all details, in order to arriva to the proposal for a new web site. It is not clear a prori if this has to be based on html+php or on a CMS system. We also need to verify which service/support can be obtained from either CERN or INFN.
There is however agreement on the following points:
- we have to avoid any duplication: lll important infos must be contained in one and in only one page.
- the user database has to be preserved as it is. In principle the present one can be transported
- a new system, more flexible, has to be provided for the internal needs of the FLUKA collaboration.
In particular, FLUKA collaborators should access the latest development version in an easy and direct way
- course management, and in particular registrations, must remain under our control
Some discussion has been dedicated to the issue of hardware: should we limit ourselves to have access to site management or should we also manage the actual server machine? Pros and cons about the two approaches have been summarized, without arriving to a shared decision.
FLUKA Courses
Next FLUKA course is the beginner one in Dresden, 7-11 October. Registrations have to open
as soon as possible. Teachers have to be chosen as well.
In 2014 we will probably need to have a CERN course. This will be also linked to events organized in the frame of the ENTERVISION UE project (a Marie Curie initiative). We decided to negotiate with CERN the necessary assistance, mostly in terms of administrative and secreatary support.
It has been reminded that also a course in South America would be of great strategical importance, since we never had one in that part of the world. We can explore the possibility of Argentina, maybe in collaboration with Venezuela.
NEA asks for new courses in Paris. The experience and the support were very good but we need to satisfy other needs before. Furthermore there is the problem that NEA filters the registration according to the geographical origin of applicants.
Some discussion about the modulation of course fee has been carried on without a defiinitive conclusion. We have not yet solved the problem of manging money by means of administrative instruments like a CERN Team account. which could be very attractive. A Team account has to be opened by non-CERN institutions. INFN rules prevent the use of the money in a CERN Team account in the way that could be useful for our needs. We must investigare if another agency interested in FLUKA could open a team account with the desidered flexiblitiy. Houston University?
FLUKA Collaboration issues
5 members of the FLUKA Scientific Committe have reached the end of their term and have to be substituted. In order to start the election procedure, we need to update the official list of the collaboration. We shall contact all people in the present list who did not show up since some time in order to verify their interest. This has to be completed before the next collaboration meeting.
Next meeting
We need to fix meeting dates much more in advace.
In 2013 we need another collaboration meeting. It has been decided to have it in the last week of November. Everybody is asked to reserve that week: the exact date will be fixed as soon as possible. The meeting location is not yet established. The case of Prague has been suggested (Alberto is working there at present): this could help the participation of more interested people from Germany and middle Europe in general.
