Description
Gravitational wave experiments have entered the data taking era. I will list the experiments currently active or planned for the (more or less) near future, then focusing on the four possible kinds of sources which they aim to detect: bursts, coalescing binaries, periodic and stochastic. After giving a non-exhaustive summary of the possible sources, I will conclude by trying to argue what consequences can be drawn from gravitational wave detections for astrophysics and particle physics. PLEASE NOTICE THAT THE MEETING WILL TAKE PLACE IN room 40-4-C01 (in building 40, the ATLAS building) Suggested readings for the interest readers For a general review on gw arXiv:0709.4682 A.
