CERN, The European Organization for Nuclear Research is pleased to host the third Workshop on Cryogenics Operations (Cryo Ops 2008) to be held at its premises near Geneva, Switzerland, on 22-26 September 2008. This workshop is aimed at engineers who currently operate (or plan to operate) large cryogenic plants in the support to physics research or industrial applications. The mission statement for the workshop focuses on the practical applications used in operating the plants and can be summarized as follows.
<o:p></o:p>
The Workshop provides a periodic forum for research laboratories and industry to present and discuss current technological advancements, operability and maintenance experience of large cryogenic plants in the support to the physics research community or to indutrial production.
The Workshop topics are intended to include the latest pratical engineering, safety and operational management applications and techniques that have been found to enhance the operational costs, reliability and flexibility.
This includes topics such as the initial choice of the refrigeration cycle design; utility management; manpower scheduling; plant control philosophy and automation; short and long term maintenance scheduling; refrigerant loss detection and control; system contamination; component reliability; and equipment technical performance issues. Discussions of current technical problems and possible solutions are encouraged.
Programme
The programme for this 4-day meeting is still under development but will include:
