Present: The root team, Marco, Andreas, Pere, Benedikt, Peter, Andrea Valassi, John Harvey, Giulio
Axel Progress on ROOT6
* To answer a question of Pere: the offsets are calculated with generated functions
* Marco Cl: There is a doubt about the agreement that the relocatability is not guaranteed for FWks.
What prevent ROOT6 to read in an environment variable?
Probably nothing, but the issue is that the introduction of a new environment variable, it is an issue of reproducing environment.
Proposal: why not having a "poor's man pcm" which is a zip file of all the headers?
Problems seen: space on disk, repetitions, runtime unzip, getting the directories right. Space could be saved with tiering.
Stop-gap solution: An environment variable for finding the headers will be provided.
Peter:
* Geometry fixed: statistically v5 and v6 are consistent for sim and reco! *In theory* Alice may be ready to use root6 in production
* Next week we can say more about the analysis
Valeri:
* Just back from vacation
* Soon at CERN for working on ROOT6
* There is the fear that more code that would need to be migrated
* Axel: It would be nice to see where Reflex is actually used
Marco:
* Problems seen in PyROOT: investigations are ongoing in collaboration with Danilo and propose solutions and items in Jira
Andreas:
* CMS has to wait for relocation: nothing much new (CMS needs relocability for plugging ROOT into the CMSSW)
Andrea Valassi:
* We are working on PyCool
* Reflex: for handling typedefs and constants. Wim provided a fix, work being followed up.
* Axel: Where PyCool fits the Experiments' FW? For example in the management in the conditions of LHCb.
* Marco: constants are now ok, the typedefs are now to be tackled.
