Superstring perturbation theory keeps attracting attention both for its applications and for its relation to interesting mathematical problems. I will discuss some of the aspects recently highlighted by Witten (1209.2459 and 1209.5461) and mention why multiloop superstring amplitudes are relevant for the derivation of field theory effective actions.
