informal software meeting

Europe/Zurich
CERN

CERN

People present: Jim, Richard, Philippe, Akshay, Vasia, Matt, Rafal

Philippe started the meeting with a brief overview of what was done with the MMT test array, and pointing out that an estimate (with uncertainties) of the material in front of the array would be needed for interpreting the negative SQUID results as monopole production limits. We need to start implementing the material geometry of relevant cavern components into LHCb software. In the long term, this will be essential to all MoEDAL searches.

Then Akshay went through his slides. Using images from the Panoramix event viewer it is clear that very little has been implemented on the MoEDAL side of the LHCb geometry. On this side, the VELO vacuum vessel appears as just a cylinder in the geometry, lacking even the back cover. On the other hand, this component was implemented by Matthias Carakson in a radiation protection study, but in another format using another software. It needs to be included into the Gauss framework.

Action plan

-- The most important component is the vacuum vessel. We will start by implementing it into Gauss.
    1. define who is in charge of what. Matt and Rafal expressed interest in contributing, with no formal commitment. Akshay needs to hand over the information he has and his experience of LHCb software.
   2. gather drawings, pictures, previous studies, etc.
   3. implement the vacuum vessel components into the LHCb geometry.
   4. validate this using Panoramix
   5. refine/iterate if necessary, obtain maps of radiation lengths, with uncertainties (few % level is the target)
   6. keep in contact with Gloria Corti for the implementation and inclusion into LHCb trunk. The MoEDAL geometry should be harmonised with LHCb geometry (should not diverge).

-- Information which is relevant to many people (e.g. drawing database, picture database, links) needs to be put together into a webpage which MoEDAL members can access. (need to define who is responsible)

-- We should have software meetings every other week (although the next meeting will be in three weeks). Philippe will send around a Doodle poll to decide on a time.
