Welcome to the 2014 R2E/Availability workshop aiming to discuss constraings and requirements for the operational periods of Run 2/3 and HL-LHC. The talks are arranged along four distinct sessions:
Location: BE-Auditorium Prevessin (864-1D-02)
- Tuesday: Availability/R2E Fundamentals, Tools and Needs
- Wednesday: Equipment developments
- Thursday: IR3/IR7 lifetime concerns
- Friday (morning only): Strategy and long-term vision for R2E/Availability
In this way we hope to facilitate that not all speakers and concerned/interested people are required for the full workshop period (everybody is evidently more than welcome!), however this way allowing for the respective presence when needed.
The main goals of the workshop are (further details: https://indico.cern.ch/event/308246/material/2/0.pdf)
- Understand availability limitations due to radiation effects (SEE, TID, DD) as well as other effects onto accelerator equipment and quantify the required equipment performance to reach the luminosity goals à Run 2, Run 3, HL-LHC.
- Identify what is required (tools, facilities, expertise) to quantify and mitigate radiation effects on equipment.
- Identify appropriate mitigation measures: radiation tolerant developments (tunnel electronics, PC), displacement of sensitive equipment (superconducting links etc.) and other aspects.
- Identify the long-term requirements for electronic systems.
- Address IR3-IR7 life time issues linked to radiation and equipment maintenance planning.
- Understand how development of electronics for radiation environment is addressed in the LHC experiments.
