At our last team meeting the developments foreseen for the next
development release in the graphics area were:
1) Investigate the possibility to translate the GS (PostScript) fonts
file into TTF file to replace those in $ROOTSYS/fonts.
2) In TLine/TArrow, we need an option to force a line/arrow to be
vertical or horizontal.
3) In TH2::ShowProjectionX/Y add support for nbins like in TH3
4) Implement the case with variable size bins in TH3::FitSlicesZ
5) OpenGL:
* Complete GL-in-pad and fix all problems we have now.
* Start something with animation
Point 6): The last news I had from Timur (on May 4th) were:
I hope to send you changes/modifications for TGLHistPainter next week
(this week JINR does not work).
About MacOS X - I have bus error only if I start ROOT with "root -l".
If I simply write root (or root.exe) there is no bus error. So,
obviously, that's none of my business and I can try to fix the real
problem on MacOS X. (There are two of them in fact - mutex lock for glx
pixmap(I do not think I can do anything here) and wrong behavior for
direct-rendering+pixmaps (this I'm trying to fix)).
I send him again an email today (May 9th). No reply yet.
Some unplanned items have been added since last meeting:
* Pressing ESC key allows to stop unwanted object move on pad.
* We have received some code for Polar graphs. It needs *a lot* of clean
up. But it would be nice to put it in CVS because I plan to asked my
summer student to polish and develop it further. This item might come
before Point 4) as the summer student will need it beginning of June.
* Some improvements in Exclusion Zone drawing.

GUI
The list of the foreseen GUI developments for the May release was:
1) GUI builder with stable functionality, less decoration
2) To separate the GUI of TArrowEditor in two: TLineEditor and
TArrowEditor according to the new arrow functionality
3) Development of TF1/2Editors
4) Improvements of MDI frames, disable combo box status.
5) Fit Panel
6) Additional fixes and developments
Point 1)
The GUI builder development is in progress. The main difficulty there is
keeping the robustness and backward compatibility of the GUI classes
while accepting the massive patches of Valeriy Onuchin.
- I refused first patch with TGIcon changes and still I am skeptic to
have TImage data member in TGIcon class for resizing purpose.
- Not clear what is the need of having SavePrimitive methods for
vertical and horizontal scroll bars. TGCanvas widget makes visible all
additional information that cannot be displayed in a window and the
horizontal and vertical scroll bars are part of it. In fact,
TGCanvas::SavePrimitive does the job.
- New special GUI builder methods were introduced in the public
interface of several GUI classes because of their use in the context
menus for widget settings. Unfortunately if users involve them into the
user code, the application crashes. We need to find a way to protect
them for that normal use.
Point 2) is done.
Point 3)
TF1/2Editor development was stopped on 21-March-06 because of priority
given to the GUI builder related developments and testing -
SavePrimitive methods were enhanced to generate C++ code of all existing
signals/slots connections. I hope to have time to finish at least
TF1Editor for the coming release in spite of my absence from 19 to 26
May.
Point 4)
- MDI fixes are done.
- Combo box changes for its disabled state - will be postponed.
Point 5)
I am working on 'Set Parameters' dialog. The design of 'Set Parameters'
dialog is almost completed in a way to pick up all function parameters'
characteristics when users click on the function graphics. Its base part
is used by TF1Editor and can be enlarged easily for the future needs of
the Fit Panel.
Point 6)
Made in color widgets, object browser, list view, icons, message boxes.
Point 1) Will be postponed. Need more time.
Points 2) are 3) are done.
I was working on Point 4) when a bug in option COLZ (for 2d histos
painting) showed up. This origin of the bug is understood (Revision 1.198
of THistPainter) but it needs a careful investigation to not introduce a
new problem. I still hope to have time to implement Point 4) for the
release.
From Lorenzo:
=============
hera are the new developments forseen in MathLib for the next release:
-Base:
-Reimplement TRandom and TRandom2
- MathCore
- addition of some extra functions requested by CMS for
LorenztVectors
- MathMore
- C++ wrapper for GSL random number and engines. All the good
generators of GSL are available for C++
- add an inline function using GSL to calculate eigenvalues of a
Matrix (t.b.d.)
- move to GSL version 1.8
- use GSL as external dependency (like FFTW) and do not build
anymore GSL inside MathMore
- SMatrix:
- add inversion algorithm from CLHEP
- add tensor vector (outer) product
- Minuit2:
- removed some verbosity and fixed some problems with the
TFitterMinuit class (ROOT interface to Minuit2)
- Nothing new from Anna apart some bug fixes
From Bertrand
=============
Coming in GuiBuilder :
New patches have been sent by Valeriy, currently the code is under heavy
verification / validation, as a few bugs have been discovered.
Here is the list of expected changes for the release :
- New widgets (hopefully TGListTree)
- Improvement of robustness
- Better layout management
- Bug fixes
From Gerri

- Support for AFS token acquisition/renewal
- Support for autoregistration of workers
- New version of XROOTD (testing at CAF)
- possibility to authenticate with AFS password
