The training, organized by STMicroelectronics-Catania IPD R&D department) in collaboration with Commitment, will take place 6-7 October 2014 at the Hotel Domus Mariae Benessere, Siracusa, Italy. It is addressed to all the researchers hired in the frame of FP7 PicoSEC-MCNet project.
Supervisors and other students invited by the partners of the project are also welcome. 


This workshop will provide researchers with those soft skills they have to practise with to be efficient managers having to juggle multiple tasks, deliver projects and manage teams.
Gain successful objectives in current organizational contexts is no longer a matter of mere technical proficiency. Rather, it is a combination of technical expertise, the ability to manage both information and people, efficient communication and smart problem solving.
The following three modules provide an accelerated crash course on the most important topics related to building an effective managerial approach:

  • deliver profitable projects within the enterprise using project management techiques;
  • manage time and prioritise work;
  • dealing with intercultural teams and remote teams;
  • acknowledge and endorse differences, managing conflicts;
  • foster the power of personal responsibility conveying energy towards results;
  • build a proactive and positive business approach.
The three modules are:

  2. Team Dynamics, Remote Teams Management and Cultural Differences
  3. Personal Effectiveness

    • Training First Module - Interdisciplinary Project Management

      Project management is the application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently. Project management is critical to the success of every organization, without thoughtful planning, execution and monitoring of efforts, organizations will lose business to those that effectively manage their projects.

      Objectives of this module:
      - clarify the responsibilities of a managerial role
      - master the tools and techniques to successfully manage projects
      - effectively communicate during the project
      - reinforce personal accountability and strive others accountability towards results

    • Training Second Module - Team Dynamics, Remote Teams Management and Cultural Differences

      Disagreements are inevitable while working together to reach professional objectives. When performing, differences of opinion and even conflicts are commonplace. Therefore, managing teams could become particularly challenging for researchers, often required to being able to handle different
      perspectives that are useful in their workplace too.

      Objectives of this module:
      - understand team dynamics and their evolution
      - improve effectiveness in communication in order to gain a goal-oriented mindset
      - develop the skills necessary to manage effectively conflicts within the team
      - pay attention to diversities using an integrative approach to cope with the culture shock

      Personal responsibility is the supporting concept of one’s personal effectiveness: the ability to set goals, objectives and effective action plans choosing an entrepreneurial attitude. Firmly rooted on the concept of personal responsibility this module draws the way to explore one’s potential, fostering crucial elements to gain one’s professional and personal success.

      Objectives of this module:
      - understand the meaning of “personal responsibility” and how it relates to the “responsibility connected to our role”
      - get a sense of an entrepreneurial mindset
      - become aware of the necessary factors to have under control in order to guarantee effective results
      - become aware of critical behaviors that limit potential’s expression
