Piotr's Slides
Stefan's Slides
Present: Stefan L, Alvaro, Piotr, Francisca, Oliver, Fernando L, Renaud, Paul, Jim, Dirk, Stefan S, Lennart, Fernando V, Frank, Bobby, Manuel, Clara, Carmen, Wayne 1) PVSS Advanced Playback Manager (APM) Stefan gave a brief presentation and demo of the above. His slides can be found under: http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=32086 This requires a second system to be running that has access to the archived data of the system being analysed and a copy of all dpes of interest. However, it does not currently allow for the connection to multiple systems as would be required for the experiments. In addition, the selection of data of interest is on a dpe by dpe basis which would be too cumbersome. However, Manuel asked if the functionality was of interest in principle and whether it would be worth discussing with ETM to enhance the tool to be of use for the experiments. Although it was felt that the functionality could be of interest, it was agreed that it would not be feasible for the DCS of an experiment. It could certainly be of interest for the GCS or DSS and maybe for very specific applications within the DCS. The experiments should contact Stefan if there are interested in evaluating this further. 2) PVSS Qt 3D widget Piotr presented the status of the PVSS Qt 3D widget and Alvaro demonstrated it. The presentation can be found under: http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=32086 There were a number of issues raised by Piotr but in most cases it was too early to get a consensus. Piotr and Alvaro will make an initial choice which can then be discussed after some experienced has been gained. In order to gain experience the connection to the geometry database (ATLAS, CMS and LHCb) should be implemented with high priority and Bobby offered to do this. Also the mechanism for mapping to the FSM should also be provided quickly. A first version will be provided by Piotr and Alvaro this evening for which Bobby will then provide the database access. For missing features the starting point should be the development of Bobby. 3) PVSS and Vista Vista will only be supported by ETM will version 3.8 (October 2008), although 3.7 SP1 should already install on it. It was agreed that the experiment and IT/CO policy is not to releases 3.7 and not to support Vista. Currently CERN has no immediate plans to move to Vista and so it would certainly be premature to do so for a control system. 4) FW Exceptions Oliver asked whether the FW exceptions should be raised as PVSS error messages. There was agreement that this would be useful. He should allow to create an error message with a define severity or to call an external function to be provide by the experiments to generate their own severity level. What about FSM messages? Probably some of these should be done in the same way. 5) Status of Log Viewer Although some problems have been experienced by LHCb and CMS, Stefan is confident that the current version works correctly. Fernando will try this out with LHCb and then let Bobby know the outcome. However, the central log viewer plug in only works on Windows and needs to be redone. IT/CO will investigate whether this could be done by Alvaro.
