Description
Recent experimental data at GSI on the time–modulation of the rate of the number of daughter ions produced by the K–shell electron capture (EC) decays of the hydrogen–like ions are analysed within the standard theory of weak interactions of massive neutrinos. The necessary conditions for the appearance of the time–dependent interference term in the EC-decay rate of hydrogen–like heavy ions are formulated. The period of the time–modulation is expressed in terms of the difference of squared neutrino masses and the mother ion mass. The numerical value for the difference of the squared neutrino masses, extracted from the GSI data, is discussed in connection with the experimental data by KamLAND. The observed disagreement is overcome by means of finite corrections to neutrino masses, caused by the interactions of massive neutrinos with the strong Coulomb field of daughter ions. The values of neutrino masses are obtained. It is shown that there are no time–modulation of the positron–decay rates of the hydrogen–like heavy ions.
