      Reducing the gap between CERN and Academia

    • Electronics within the Electrical Power Converter Group

      The TE-EPC group is in charge of the design, development, procurement, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical power systems for all accelerators, transfer lines, experimental areas and tests facilities at CERN. This mandate includes:
      Power converters for normal conducting and superconducting magnets
      Solid state klystron modulators
      Static VAR compensators
      The group provides expertise in the fields of: power electronics, power quality, analog and digital electronics, control system, high-precision current and voltage measurements.

    • Electronics Systems for Experiments

      The ESE group designs and maintains electronics systems and projects for the experiments at CERN and also supplies a series of electronics related services. The group consists of ~50 staff members and is organized in three sections:

      Back-end (BE) section designing electronics systems located in the counting houses and the optical links from the detectors.

      Front-end (FE) section designing on-detector readout systems.

      Micro Electronics (ME) section designing Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) for HEP applications.

    • Electronics within the Beam Instrumentation Group

      The Beam Instrumentation Group is responsible for designing, building and maintaining the instruments that allow observation of the particle beams and the measurement of related parameters for all CERN accelerators and transfer lines.
      It is also engaged in research and development to improve existing detection techniques and explore new avenues to allow further optimization of the current machines and to meet the challenges associated with future accelerators.
      The range of activities undertaken by the Group include: accelerator physics, detector technology, custom built electronics, mechanical and vacuum engineering for detector housings and software engineering.
