CERN Spring Campus

The 2015 CERN Spring Campus is the second edition of a series of schools dedicated to Information Technology and Computing. Started in 2014, the CERN Spring Campus brings a new dimension to CERN’s scientific and cultural activities. Over 3 intensive days, this event will bring together experts from around CERN, to meet with future engineers and scientists in a program of scientific and technological dissemination and cultural exchange.

At CERN, we believe that scientific curiosity is an essential part of being human and we wish to share the excitement and enthusiasm of discovery with as wide a public as possible. CERN shows what people can achieve when they come together for a common purpose. The basic technology of the LHC was impossible when the project was conceived, yet today it runs routinely. Such grand challenges are just a normal part of life at CERN, and we want to bring all our expertise and share it with the community.

This year, the school will take place in Instituto Superior Técnico, in Lisbon, a leading engineering faculty in Portugal, between the 1st and the 3rd of April.

Our target audience is primarily final year BSc students and MSc students in the field of Computer Science or related, who want to know more about the latest technologies and industry trends in IT.

The core programme will consist of 25 hours of sessions, delivered in English from specialists in their respective fields, covering topics such as:

  • Information Technology
  • Team work
  • Science and society
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Project Management
  • Writing a Curriculum Vitae
  • Job Interview Techniques

Along with the lectures, the campus includes 2 social events. Where speakers and students will share time together, opening a door to the students to know more about CERN or ask questions related to the school.

Students will be immersed during 3 days in a multicultural environment where all activities, sessions and debates will be in English promoting the interchange of cultures and thoughts.

At the end of the course, a diploma will be given to the students who successfully attended the sessions. Depending on  the specific course programme at their own university, the students obtaining the diploma may also obtain some ECTS credits, awarded by their respective university, within the context of an "Independent Studies" unit. Interested students should submit the proposal to their course coordinator.
