Ideasquare Hands-on Workshop presents

Join this workshop to
1. learn basics of 3D printing: what are the different kinds of additive manufacturing technologies, what are they suitable for and principles on how to design for 3D printing;
2. try 3D printing hands-on: how to prepare files to be 3D-printed, the workflow for operating 3D printers at Ideasquare, post-printing processing.

Objective of this workshop is to provide participants with a basic understanding of 3D printing technology, its possibilities, tools and materials, and use the printers available at Ideasquare for testing. If the limited time allows, each person should be able to take away very simple 3D printed test part as we finish. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a ready-to-print file they made themselves - whether from scratch, or by customising an existing design. This workshop covers only the very basics for 3D modelling / CAD software required to generate STL type of files the 3D printers use, but does not provide extensive training on modelling in CAD, emphasis is on how to convert your idea into a 3D object, and what to take into account when designing for, and printing with 3D printers.

If you want to participate in the hands-on printing part, please bring your own laptop / computer with you. If you have used CAD software before, your laptop/computer should be equipped with CAD of your preference - the only requirement for the software is that it can produce .stl files as export. If you haven't used any CAD software before, please download and install Autodesk 123D Design (for free) from here: http://www.123dapp.com/design and go through the first 4 video tutorials (1. Creating objects, 2. Moving, snapping, 3. Grouping objects and 4. Edges, faces, points), which are 3-4 minutes in duration each.
