The Reliability and System Risk Analysis (RSRA) Workshop, sponsored by ATLAS, CMS, and CERN Bond and QART lab, focuses on methods for performing reliability analysis, hazard analysis, and system risk assessment of large complex systems. The workshop will include examples, exercises, and lessons learned from multiple industries. It will cover: • Traditional quantitative and qualitative methods including: o Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) o Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) o Event Tree Analysis (ETA) o Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) • Advantages, practical limitations, and lessons learned from multiple industries • Systems theoretic models and methods o Systems approach to safety (STAMP) o Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) The workshop will be provided by Dr. John Thomas from MIT's System Engineering Research Lab. Dr. Thomas's research focuses on engineering analysis methods for complex systems including large aerospace, nuclear, automotive, chemical, and defense systems.
