Description
An inventory of all collimators and beam absorbers in the LHC ring is presented. The
required settings of the various devices are discussed, the roles in beam cleaning
and machine protection are explained and limitations are explored. A basic strategy
for commissioning of all collimators and absorbers is explained, including a
specification on the necessary prerequisites on optics, orbit, etc. The required
cleaning performance and protection is discussed as a function of beam intensity and
various required steps in commissioning of collimators and absorbers are presented.
