Description
In 2001 a first Static Var Compensator (SVC) based on a set of Thyristor Controlled
Reactors was commissioned for the SPS. This was the first step in the process of
replacing the obsolete Saturated Reactors installed in the early seventies. The
second step is now in preparation: dismantling of the so-called “North compensator”
and replacing it with a second SVC, essentially identical to the one commissioned in
2001. This paper describes the project and its consequences for the operation of the
400/18 kV main substation.
