Description
For the SIS18 upgrade, in the frame of the FAIR project, the use of non evaporable
getter (NEG) films is foreseen.
This will increase the pumping speed for CO and H2 more than one order of magnitude.
Calculations performed by means of the Vaktrak code have proved that the
installation of NEG coated dipole and quadrupole chambers will lead to a better base
pressure of about a factor 10. Additionally, the problem of the conductance limited
pumping speed inside the magnet sections will be overcame.
Therefore it's planned to establish the NEG coating technique at GSI.
In this talk I want to give an overview of our first test facility.
