Description
An operational experience to be shared that followed fine tuning of the RF
performance of the drift tube linac after initial tank conditioning. The
conditioning power level of 2.2 MW that was achieved during initial
conditioning could not be obtained following further mechanical tuning of the
RF system. The initial suspect was vacuum, specifically pressure spikes in the
window area, however, pressure traces did not support this theory and the
mystery deepened with uncharacteristic RGA scans. The findings of this
investigation are presented as the culprit in bought to justice.
