Magnetic horns are a fundamental instrument in the generation of neutrino beams. Following technical basics, a description of the three main experimental areas and their horn systems is given : neutrino beam in the South East Area at the PS in the 60's till 1975, West Area Neutrino Facility at the SPS from 1976 to 1998 and the present horn construction project for the CNGS neutrino beam from CERN to Gran Sasso.
