For the LHC luminosity upgrade the inner trackers will need to withstand a radiation fluence of >5E15 particles/cm2. In this seminar new strategies be discussed which should solve the present limitation of radiation hardness of silicon detectors. The key issues are device structure(covered in the first part), device operation and defect engineering. Specific emphasis will be placed on cryogenic operation and a new oxygenated material-DIMER-Oxygen Silicon.
