While traditional journals, even those available electronically, are changing slowly, there is a rapid evolution in scholarly communication. Usage is rapidly moving to electronic formats. This is leading to new patterns of usage even among established scholars, and greatly increased usage from new classes of readers, who used to have little access to traditional scholarly materials. These changing patterns of use will have important implications for libraries and publishers.
Note: Andrew Odlyzko is one of the most known researcher in the area of scholarly communication.
