Description
CERN Safety Code D2 on pressure equipment makes reference to the European Directive 97/23/EC, which is being adopted by the EU Member States. The first speaker will give an overview of the main points of the Directive and will describe its domain of applicability and its limits. Emphasis will be put on the legal obligations imposed by the Directive and by the related technical regulations. The second speaker will present the safety review process (design, fabrication checks,
testing and periodic inspections) to which pressure equipment is submitted in France. He will also describe how that Country treats pressure equipment that is not covered by the European Directive 97/23/EC.
Following these two talks, a discussion will be organized on the influence of the Directive on the CERN safety regulation and on the structural safety review of pressure equipment to be used on the territory of the Organization.
