Mutations in the nature of scientific research and web technologies have created new expectations for digital research libraries. Personalization and customization services offer the potential to improve the user experience when interacting with digital resources which result in information overload while also taking advantage of personal documents, links and materials as a source for sharing data and collaboration.
The Research Library of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has designed and deployed a new personalized web service to enhance scientific collaboration, the MyLibrary @LANL portal. Supporting either individuals or groups, MyLibrary supports collections of personal links to electronic journals, databases, and other web resources. It can be customized to reflect specific disciplines and research needs. The MyLibrary application differs from other digital library portal projects in its shared collaborative capabilities, as well as through indirect collaboration with a defined user community via an active recommendation system for electronic journals.
The talk will present the different facets of the portal.
